Good housekeeping might sound like one of the simpler parts of health and safety, but it can have a big impact on how safely a construction site operates.

Keep access routes clear

Walkways, stairs, fire routes and access points should be kept clear wherever possible. Materials, tools, cables and waste left in the wrong place can quickly create slip and trip hazards.

This is particularly important in shared work areas where several trades may be operating at the same time.
